Famed blues guitar player from Leland, Mississippi, James “Son” Thomas cut several records in the U.S. and abroad, quickly gaining an international reputation. The material presented here, however, has a flavor that differs from other releases, probably owing to the informality and authenticity of the settings in which it was recorded. The album also features some blues by Thomas’ uncle, Joe Cooper, along with fellow-countryman Eddie Cusic. All tracks were recorded in Leland and Greenville at the performers’ homes between 1976 and 1982, and were digitally remastered from the original tapes in 2013. Editorial assistance by Corey Wetherington, Penn State University.
